Dental Care and Fresh Breath - Providing proper dental care is one of the most important aspects of pet ownership. In fact, dental and gum disease is the number 1 health problem diagnosed by veterinarians. Over 80% of all dogs over the age of 2 have some form of periodontal disease. Left untreated periodontal disease can cause pain, bad breath, tooth loss, and infections that can lead to serious heart and kidney disease. By practicing routine dental care most dental problems can be prevented.
Dental Care Tips: 1. See your veterinarian yearly for a thorough dental examination.
2. Feed nutritious dry pet foods and hard treats.
3. Use your Kong Dental toy three times a week or more to help remove plaque and food debris.
4. Brush your dog's teeth at least three times a week.
5. Use Kong Breath Paste on your Kong dental toy to help draw your dog's attention and freshen breath.
VERY IMPORTANT - NO DOG TOY IS INDESTRUCTIBLE. Supervise your dog's use of Kongs until you are confident they can be used safely without supervision.
Performs a gentle "squeegee" action on teeth and gums when chewed. (For Chihuahuas & similar mixed breeds.)
Dogs Need KONGS! - KONGS are widely used for therapy and prevention of boredom, separation anxiety and other behavioral issues. Regular use of Kongs can also improve oral health. Their unpredictable bounce lures most dogs into a game of chase, catch and chew. The hollow center can be filled with food and treats. A dab of peanut butter spread around the inside is very effective. For more stuffing ideas, send for a complimentary copy of "Recipe for the Perfect Dog".
The KONG Story:
KONGs story began with a German Shepherd named Fritz, his owner, and a Volkswagen van. Fritz, a former police dog, enjoyed chewing rocks. This activity wore down his teeth and frustrated his owner, Joe Markham. One afternoon while working on his Volkswagen van, Joe noticed Fritz dining on rocks once again. Out of desperation, he started disassembling the van he was working on and threw parts near Fritz to see if he could be coaxed away from his destructive dinner. Radiator hoses didn’t work--neither did anything else until he pulled off a rubber suspension part and tossed it to Fritz. Right away, Fritz was ecstatic.
The KONG was born! While Fritz invented the KONG, it was Joe Markham who saw the potential of this odd-looking toy. Markham refined the toy’s design, developed a proprietary, super-strong rubber formula and began production in 1976.
